Usually, our trips to LA have always been visiting our friends and the husband’s cousins. But when we were doing touristy activities, the husband and I were surprised to know that Hollywood is indeed the summer party hub. Freeways get backed up and all hotel rooms get snapped up.
One thing that I don’t like, people in California who claim that they are diversed are not really what they claim to be. On the way back on highway 101 to San Francisco, we stopped at this Danish little town called Solvang. Mom was with me in the bakery and the lady working there was not friendly at all to my mom. So, when I ordered the pastries from her, I was loud and snobby (the husband was wondering why I was loud). After I ordered, the lady asked my mom is she was ready to order. Biasalah, mom doesn’t really understand English, so I told the lady in a loud voice, ‘No, she is with me. LET’S GO MOM!’.
So what did that mean? That scarved muslim women get second class service? This better not happen in front of the husband and I or the shop keepers will get earfuls from us!
Here are the pictures of the trip.

Ohhhhh, I forgot to mention this earlier. This is for Anedra. When we were in LA, we bought a Star Map (alah, the map that shows where the Hollywood stars live or use to live), what a rip-off! The stars either live in Hollywood, Sunset Blvd or Beverly Hills. Can only see their huge gates but thats it. Takperlah, they want privacy kan? I got so sick from driving in circles before we called it quits. Anedra, like I told you, I visited Tom Cruise's house for you. Huge gate, but I said hi to his lawn jockey hehehe. But we get to see Aaron Spelling's (90210 producer) rumah yang besaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar sekali! And no, I don't care about walking on Rodeo Drive waiting to run into Jessica Simpson or Britney Spears!

intan, i am chatting with u now what. part jambu tuh, siapa paling cun eh? kasi tau i sikit hahaha.
yes! gasak balik! hehehe. if it were me I would've faked a swoon and passed out. Manalah tau ada chance jockey tu angkat I bawak masuk rumah tu ke..:) (in real-boring life, he'd prob leave me to die or dry at the sidewalk. at best i'd be brought to the guard house by the gates eh?)
Best lah tengok the pictures and read your story. Have an enjoyable time with your parents :-).
Ely,
Thats normal though for your mom to be treated like that because of how she dressed.. I got used to it around here since I too wear hijab or scarve.. but I don't let their glares/stares intervene with my activity.. I just smiled back at them or I may grin or stare back at them.. because sometimes, these people never see such person dressed that way.. so it's something new to them.. If your mom smiled or say hi to them.. Insha Allah.. they'll be nice to you and tell them that your mom is not from around there..;)
mammal, pass out? why? darah gemuruh ker hehhe!
fishy, thanks for coming by. do come here often. u're welcome here any time :)
suriyati, then u are a patient lady. its ok for others to stare but not treat my mom with rudeness. u know that there is a diference to that. org nak stare tak kisah lah, tapi kalau dia kurang ajar with my mom just due to the way she dresses, kan tak patut? but of course, my mom did not know what was going on when i tgh hot hehehe.
ayu, yeah my pdad is 60 and mom abt 58. i also wanna age like my mom. no wrinkles, just smiles jer.
cantik lah ely and glad you all had a nice time - except of course for that waitress!
Dear, dear Ely.. Thank you so much for driving all the way down from SF just to see us. We are really touched u and family did tt so we could say gdbye 1 last time. I really enjoyed your visit. Your mom and dad are just so nice. Mas and Mat are so grown-up now compared to when I first met them 2 and half yrs ago. U and David are just a fab couple. Glad u had a gd trip to LA (exc. for tt woman). Its true what u said abt LA looking diverse but still sometimes there's discrimination. We r so looking forward to moving to a new place. We'll see each other again soon, INsha-Allah. Love u all. eLva
kak teh, and the party still goes on. tadi pagi i dah siap nak pergi kerja, my mom ajak pergi mall. i said 'mak, Ely kerja hari nih.' and then she said she wanted to go tonight when i come back from work. but i guessed she couldnt wait and went to the mall with my dad. now i remember why i love the mall so much!
elva! u know, i dah masuk van baru terasa sedih sekali, dah start rindu u and the family again. please remember us always, insyaAllah, til we meet again. LOVE YOUR FAMILY ELVA!
