Being abroad has taught me...

Before you read the rest of this entry, just wanted to thank my readers who come to my blog, let it be everyday or your first time being here. My page hits have been hitting the peak since 2 days ago…but with the lowest number of comments which is not my priority factor. Commenting is not a requirement when reading my blog, always been my pleasure to have visitors to this page :)

Thank you for coming!!! To the loyal readers (peminat ku semua! Hehehehe), I would be nothing without you, cewah!

Being abroad has taught me...

To value 'my' people
Never knew that I am a true melayu until I moved far away from home. Barulah terfikir kan Mak Joyah dan Cik Kiah yang tak henti duk gossip pasal anak Makcik Tenah. Actually, that’s when I feel the urge to find and make new friends, malays who live abroad and share our experiences and to feel that we're not alone in this 'not so many melayu' country.

Pergi jalan beraya, kalau kat Singapore, sejauh2 nya rumah orang tuh, 45 mins drive jer, kalau di sini, at least 45 mins and to an hour drive or more pun sanggup.

~Takkan hilang melayu di dunia!~

To be more tolerant
I tend to hold my breath and count more than 10. Let it be arguing with the spouse, getting mad at the kids or problems at work.

Tolerant also involves
-Not interrupting when a conversation is being held (I am very bad with that)
-Eye to eye contact when you hold a conversation
-A child is to be heard and not just be seen. A child is expected to respond socially when asking how they are doing and not to look on the floor and not answer (that’s if the parents having to tolerate in training them from home!).

To be more understanding
To understand that this country does not consist of just Malays (hard to find), Indians (you can find them at the IT department) or Chinese (abundance here!) but also hispanics of all kinds, europeans of all kinds and asians of all creatures. And get this, I found out also that asians are not as ignorant as orang yang tinggal di sini.

Being married to an american and of jewish decent, it makes me excited to learn about the american (eh dorang ada culture ker?) and the husband's culture (eh dia tuh tau ker culture dia?).

And that the husband was not born a muslim. Cannot expect him to dive into the muslim culture in the blink of an eye. Mesti pelan2.

Bersyukur of the goodness upon me
Since I moved here, I do not care about looking forward to a new pay check (cos I know they go to bills) but am thankful that the bills are taken care of and that we have a job, the kids are well fed and I do not slog for money and still feel that its not enough. Alhamdulillah, I am glad that I have a husband who is the financial manager in the house (besides him coming from the decent of knowing how to be tight fisted with money).

Any good grades from the kids, any pay increment for me and any business sale from the husband is something from Allah Almighty. We're so protected by Allah, in terms of happiness and wealth…syukur syukur.

What love and true sacrifice is
I moved 8,000 miles for my love. The husband sacrificed by taking on my kids and me. The kids sacrificed their lifestyle to be with me. My parents sacrificed me and my kids for my own and the kids' happiness. My sister sacrificed her only sister for my happiness.

That you come to work to be heard too

That thongs are the BEST lingerie in the world (enough said)

That moisturizer is a must here

That sushi is meant to be eaten RAW (yes, you don’t cook the fish!)

ely, i away for few days only so many new postings!

and anedra, dont la share shishi, sushi ok... shishi aiyah, not good you know, although, some jap scientists do think that shishi especially the first one in the morning has MANY MUCH MUCH medicinal benefits. I think the wisdom tooth will still need to go.

u know yamtuan was a salesman when we first man. He sold lab equipment and among my first few buys from him were thongs (i was being subtle), but not that thong lah. And the song thong thong thong thong thong by watzisname, the dragon, was a big thing then.

OOD said...

when we first MEET (before anedra corrects me), hehehe..

Ely said...

oody cayang, me miss u so much! word of warning : do not type when u're not sober hehehe.

aiya u make fun of my thong! shishi also can mean like pee or something hehehe.

OOD said...

kak ely..

it took me a while to realise that when u mentioned 'thongs' u meant the undies! i was thinking.. thongs=lingerie? erh? cos thongs in australia usually meant selipar! and why was she referring that as lingerie? huh? ok.. bimbo fidah. :p

and sushi IS MEANT TO BE EATEN RAW! alamek... sushi with cooked tuna bla bla bla are wussy sushis! and they serve wussy sushis here! i very bingit u know! n to get the raw ones, so exp. so student, limited funds, cannt complain. :( hehehe..

anedra said...

OODY you make me laugh! Nasib baik you corrected that fast! But I also laughed at my "sishi" haha! Me not very sober early in the mornings lah...and the wisdom teeth definitely aint making me wiser!

ely, those thongs make em peaches jiggly no? well, mine are jiggly peaches..sure jiggling lah! not very sexy eh?

fidah, thongs are selipar here too hahaha. but i cant say G-string mah, sounds so eeew!

ailin, i know that it can be eaten cooked but originally its suppose to be eatn raw lah. thats what i meant. when i go back to singapore & malaysia, it is so HARD to find raw sushi, takes the beauty of it away.

dena and tenah, do they make ur peaches jiggly? not for me tho, they're comfy. tenah, wedgy? yes at first but if u get the think string, it feel fine babeh. no more undie lines!

Mas selalu follow blog Kak Ely, respeklah Kak Ely walaupun tinggal kat oversea tapi masih lagi kekalkan idup Melayu.

Sushi? Mula2 dulu Mas tak pandai makan tapi dah lama2 rasa sedap pulak. Nak buat tak pandai, kalu dapat resipinya letak ler kat blog.

Ely said...

mas, thank u for coming to my blog. hai, kalau dah melayu, tetap melayu kan? jauh kemana pun kita tak boleh ckp yang kita nih bukan melayu.

hmmm memang i need to update my recipe blog eh? insyaAllah, this weekend i shall update. tapikan, i tak pandai buat sushi, sang suami pandai pulak buat sushi. but i'll try to post a recipe ok!

i know how to make sushi, but the problem is to find sushi/sashimi quality fish/seafood.that's why some ppl cook it kot. sushi is supposed to be made ala carte, tapi org2 ni nak lekas, buat sushi pun pakai robot, and cooked sushi have longer shelflife.

having said that,it is NOT difficult to find raw sushi in singapore...got money sure can find one leh. there are a great number traditional japanese restaurants around here..and we are not talking about conveyor belt sushi bars(kaiten), a full spectrum of japanese cuisine is easily available here...the snag is, at least for me, it is a bit troublesome to go through the menu one by one, takut ada benda tak halal, like mirin, sake, lard etc.

twin, then we HAVE to go for sushi when i get there.

ailin, then everyone in the world who eats raw sushi will get it. u have to be adventurous when u eat mah. of course everyone one will have the sense to go to hygienic restaurants with hygienic chefs when they make sushi.

sid_presley, i will elaborate to u VERBALLY!!!
