When your 11 year old daughter asks you if she's fat, DO NOT say that she is, even if she truly has the potential to be fat if she does not stop eating her snacks!
It first started when we were buying her a pair of jeans at Old Navy. She was at school at that time but advised me that she is size zero for women. OK fine, went to Old Navy, got her 2 pairs of jeans in size zero. Got home, she put it on, alamak, tak muat! So the next weekend, we had to take her to Old Navy again to change them jeans. Tried size 2…tak muat, size 4 tak muat, so lets try size 6…muat! So size 6 she is now! She was upset cos she felt that she has gotten fat. Well, sure, she has turned into a young woman with curves. She might have inherited the 'hiney' from her mom hahahaha. I told her that shes growing but she insists that she should go on the South Beach Diet like me….HUH??? Am I dreaming or what?
No…she is too young for this kinda diet. She needs the carbs to run and play that flag football that she plays in school with the boys and she needs the energy to run around like little kittens in school. But the husband and I recommended for her to cut down on junk food.
Its not that we have much junk food at home. They're mostly 'light' popcorn, no chips, no candies and sugar free ice cream (thanks to me!). But them cookies, she just does not know how to put down! It’s the carbs!!!! But we just listen to her whining saying that shes fat (which she truly isn't). Whateverlah budak.
Two days ago, she was wearing one of the jeans that I bought to school. The husband said that she looked 'slim' in them. She said 'Oh STOP IT!'…but that sure made her smile :)

Oh Ely.. everytime I see Mas I find her blossoming into a beautiful young lady.. Fat she's definitely Not.
Ely, she's growing into a beautiful young woman.. definitely, not fat.. it's part of growing.. kalau kita tak grow nanti orang cakap kita terbantut pulak.. iya tak?.. *lol*
Anyway, y'all have a wonderful weekend and all the best to your daughter in her studies.. I guess Fall semester nearly come to an end.. :)
I think every teenage girl goes thru this phase! I did!! Tell her not to worry, like everybody else says, we can all see she growing up fine, healthy and beautiful..just like the ibu!
Dah, dah grow up anak saudara ku, jambu tau!
lilac, awww, thank you. but she sure is a handful :)
suriyati, i always tell her that shes growing and she doesnt wanna hear that. of course she is growing kan? her studies is very good so far, but still have to remind her once in a while...to not think of boys hehehe.
dena, i went thru that phase too! alah me not beautiful...just jambu jer hehehe.
tety g, hehehe jambu mcm aku ker kak? hahaha
Ely, I guess all girls go through that phase. My 12-year old is now taller than me, and cikeding semacam although she is rather big-boned. She insists she wants to eat low-fat etc etc sebab takut gemuk! Where got gemuk in the family ..... I was a size 3 jeans until I hit my 30s :) Hahaha perasan sikit!
Assalamu'alaikum Ely,
Nak dara sunti si MAS tuh....bila teenage nanti slim la dia...apalagi kalau tangkap cintan...ME ni yang perlu kena slim dulu..bagilah ME full diet program tuh...pleeeezee..
Mak Ety
I insist that it is just a phase. All girls will need to go through it. We become all awkward while the powers that be decide what should be big and what should be small. Until the time comes where what is to be big be big, we remain fatty-feel, but no, not fat.
tell mas not to worry. it is just a phase. maybe will be about a year, two years max. Auntie oody is still in the phase too. One day, when i have grown all tall and willowy, you'll see what i mean. It is called 'growing up'. in the meantime mas, wear your mom's jeans!
Wah,wah......dah besar anak dara u ya kak Ely. Bukan main lagi dah conscious abt her looks. Biasa lah kan masa i muda2 dulu pun mcm tu. Bila dah mentel kat sekolah, gemuk sikit je dah risau. Hehehehe.......
qoth, size 3? hai cik kak, i think i was size 3 when i was 10? hahahah. thanks to my mom's big hiney inheritence.
mak ety, but the South Beach Diet book lah. i promise if u use the program mesti kurus!
thaaniya & redwine, yes peer pressure from school mates. my daughter has another friend who is samoan. besar ah sikit budak tuh. then one day mas came back and told me that her friend said that she is going to be anorexic...my husband says that this friend has a long way to go hehehe.
oody, wear my jeans? hehehehehe what does that mean ah?
